New Website: www.leahvanreespainting.com

You may have noticed my http://web.mac.com/leahvanrees website has been out of commission for a couple of weeks, which has given me the opportunity to create an entirely new website.

I'll be uploading new images so keep checking back.
I hope you like it!

St. Peter's Annual Outdoor Fine Art Show

It was a warm one, but with  battery operated fans, water and great art admirers the St. Peter's Annual Outdoor Show turned out to be a wonderful show. Thank you everyone who braved the heat to stop by the booth! It was wonderful seeing you!

This year the display changed a bit,  incorporating many small paintings from each series.

Gorgeous flowers were picked up from the Lewes Farmer's Market right down the road, thanks Dad!

This year I was lucky enough to be a part of the Featured Artists' Raffle.

Thanks to everyone who made this show possible!

St. Peter's Annual Outdoor Fine Art Show

June flew by and now it's time for the St. Peter's Annual Outdoor Fine Art Show. Lewes is a great summer town with the farmer's market right down the road and many cute cafes to grab a bite or something to drink. The famous turkey salad sandwich at the art show is also a great option if you happen to get bit hungry from looking at the works of the 140 artists at the show. This year I'm happy to be a part of the annual raffle with the painting "Fluorescent Sea". I'll be debuting 9 new Delaware paintings. I hope to see you there!

Burlington International Airport

Burlington International Airport

I'm thrilled to announce my very first showing at the Burlington International Airport. As you walk along the skywalk (to catch a flight or happen to find yourself strolling along) you'll find murals, paintings and other works. For the months of July and August I'll be lucky enough to be one of those artists.

Can you see what's beyond the windows?

If you guessed paintings, you're correct!

The Burlington International Airport is also a part of Art Map Burlington, so if you happen to be in town stop by to check it out.

Art's Alive: Roberto Fitzgerald Award

Art’s Alive Gallery at Main Street Landing’s Union Station
1 Main Street,  Burlington, VT

It was my first year exhibiting my work in the Art's Alive Gallery for their Annual Juried Exhibition.  The building has a gorgeous view of Lake Champlain and a large open space inside that makes it an ideal location for displaying art. Thanks Art's Alive for letting me take part in this wonderful event!

As you walk in the first floor entrance you're welcomed by large ceilings and ample wall space. A staircase in the back of the room leads to a second floor, where more work from the exhibit is displayed.

The Art's Alive Organization did a beautiful job hanging the work.

I was thrilled at the opening reception when the awards were announced and the painting that won the Roberto Fitzgerald Award was "the way a stream should look and feel" and it was Rippling Flow. Thanks Art's Alive!

Art's Alive 2012 Festival of Fine Art will be coming to end June 30th. If you haven't, stop by to check out the Art in the Windows in Church Street and the Main Street Landing Gallery (both the first and second floor). It is a perfect way to stroll around town while admiring art.

Fish in Progress

So I haven't been able to get fish out of my head since my last series. As my family and I sat around our dining table thinking of names for the latest series a day before the show a perfect name popped up, Oceanic Soiree. When we kept brain storming all I could picture in my mind was a major fish party with many different types of fish attending. Ever since that night I wanted to paint more fish. So here are more attendees for the Oceanic Soiree.

Here are pictures of the current fish in progress

Day 1 outline:

Today ( not quite sure what day # it is):

I'm hoping to have all fish ready to debut on July 7th for the St. Peter's Annual Fine Art Outdoor Show in Lewes.

I was lucky enough to be paired with a beautiful little clothing store called Expressions. As I walked along Church Street last night I was thrilled with the way the paintings were displayed. The clothing in the windows matched the paintings!

If you happen to be strolling along Church Street enjoying the gorgeous spring/summer weather, stop by Expressions and check out the art in the windows.

Delaware by Hand Annual Spring Members' Day Show 2012

It was the perfect day for the Delaware by Hand Annual Members' Day Show. There were no rain clouds to be seen, only sunny skies.

This year's set up was a bit different than past years. I wanted to display my newest paintings and many of those paintings were small. Seven out of the nine panels displayed new paintings never seen before in Delaware (and many finished only days before the show). The small works were a refreshing change and gave the booth a different feel.

Of course the booth would not be complete without a gorgeous bouquet of freshly cut, deliciously smelling peonies and mixed flowers from the Lewes Farmers market.

I love taking part in outdoors such as these because of the great conversations that arise within this brightly colored, painting covered tent. It makes my day. Thanks to everyone who stopped by and both of my parents who helped me tremendously!

Delaware by Hand Members' Day Show

It's that time of the year again, time for outdoor art shows! I'm dusting off all of my displays, printing cards and painting my initials on newly finished pieces. The first show of the year, the Delaware by Hand Annual Spring Members' Day Show,  is this weekend. I've been checking the weather each day and as it gets closer to the date the weather seems to be getting better and better! There's no better way to spend a weekend then strolling along beautifully landscaped paths and oogling art. Hope to see you there.
