A new series, Abstract Birches, is in the works. It started with a few gouache paintings and continued with wood canvases and acrylic paint. I was intrigued by the way the tree trunks and branches divided the space and provided areas to include a variety of landscapes and seascapes.
This painting began with a cool blue underpainting. I'm planning on adding additional layers to create more depth and texture and looking forward to experimenting with different mediums to mix with the acrylics.
Drawing on the wood panel with a pencil allows me to plan my composition. This painting began with a warm yellow underpainting and then the cooler colors were added. Many more layers are needed in these paintings to give the depth and color.
